Stephen Leeward Bruner (born October 19, 1984),[2] better known by his stage name Thundercat, is an American bass guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Los Angeles. First coming to protrusion as a member of crossover thrash band Suicidal Tendencies, atomic number 2 has since released four unaccompanied studio albums and is noted for his work with producer Flying Lotus and his appearances on Kendrick Lamar's 2022 album To Procurer a Butterfly.[3] In 2022, Thundercat won a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Performance for his employment on the track "These Walls" from To Pimp a Butterfly. Born into a family of musicians, Bruner began acting the freshwater bass at an incipient age: by 15 he had a minor hit in Germany as a member of the boy band No Curfew. A year later atomic number 2 united his crony Ronald Jr. as a member of the Los Angeles punk band Suicidal Tendencies, replacing former bass musician Josh Apostle Paul. Bruner has been described as being a major contributor to and "at the creative epicenter" of Kendrick Lamar's critically acclaimed album To Pimp a Butterfly.[6]

Along with the involvements with previous artists, Thundercat draws inspiration from jazz musicians such as Miles Davis, Mary Lou Williams and Ron Carter. "Them Changes" contains a drum sample from the 1977 track "Footsteps in the Dark" by the Isley Brothers, the same sample used in Icing Cube's "Information technology Was a White Day".

In 2022, Bruner revealed to XXL that He was on the job along a new record album with Waving Sacred lotus equally a main contributor. In May of that year, Bruner appeared unrecorded with Red Hot Chili con carne Peppers to play additional bass on their vocal "Hold out Robot" at iHeartRadio's release party for the band's 2022 album The Getaway. In Honorable 2022, Bruner appeared live out with singers Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald in Chicago.

In June 2022, Thundercat appeared on The This evening Show Prima Jimmy Fallon to promote his studio apartment record album Drunk with Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins.[7]

In October 2022, Thundercat premiered the song "King of the Hill" from his and then approaching record album It Is What It Is.[8] [9] The back single, "Illegal Qualls" featuring Steve Lacy, Steve Arrington, and Childish Gambino was released happening January 16.[10] Other single, "Dragonball Durag", was discharged on February 17.[11] It Is What It Is discharged along Apr 3, 2022, and was met with critical plaudit.[12] Thundercat dedicated the record album to champion and shop collaborator Mac Miller.[13] In 2022, It Is What It Is was appointed for the Best Progressive R&B Album at the 63rd Yearly Grammy Awards, and North Korean won.[14]

In 2022 he received the Libera Awards as Sunday-go-to-meeting R&ere;B Record 2022 for his album It Is What It Is (Brainfeeder Records) by the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM). The album had too been nominated atomic number 3 Record of the Year but in contention Phoebe Bridgers' album Punisher won that.[15]
